Despite the surprisingly small crowd, this was one of the best HORDE shows the band ever played. Outstanding setlist from start to finish-- I believe this show began the "we are gonna balls-out setlist-wise regarding of the lameness of the crowd" era that carried right to the end of Bobby's life. It was a time where many of the band's hardcore fans stepped away, perhaps due to the commercial success of "Run/Hook" and the uneven and often tepid Straight on Till Morning. That said, the band brought it big time on this night and so many others on that weird tour. This particular balmy evening sees the band going for broke, leaving out the big three: "Runaround", "Hook", and "But Anyway" in favor of their best material (including a stellar "Whoops", "Price to Pay", and a 20+ minute "Mountain Cry" with Warren Haynes) in front of a festival crowd in one of the biggest markets in America. I loved it.
